Optical Scanners

Camera lenses don't see color the way humans do. They measure the difference in light reflectance. Most scanners drop color entirely and see the code in greyscale, which means two colors with similar brightness become indistinguishable.

Inversion Issues

The QR specification requires dark dots on a light reflective background. Using inverted palettes (like white dots on a black background) will cause older physical scanners and specific camera apps to fail completely.

There is no official requirement, but this checker treats 4:1 as the practical minimum and flags anything below 3:1 as a likely failure. Black on white (21:1) is the safe baseline; a dark brand color on a pale background usually lands between 7:1 and 15:1.

Usually low luminance contrast. A camera reads brightness, not hue, so a foreground and background that reflect similar amounts of light blur into one gray block even if the two colors look different to you. If the checker shows a ratio under 4:1, that is the cause.
